Cosmetic injectables are often known for treating wrinkles. However, they were first used to treat various medical conditions and continue to have multiple medical applications today. At Dr J. Aesthetics we offer in-clinic treatments for Bruxism and TMJ Dysfunction. These are conditions related to the jaw function that can lead to teeth grinding, gnashing and tooth damage, jaw pain or tenderness and discomfort with eating.
Bruxism and TMJ Dysfunction can both be caused by high levels of stress, a history of trauma to the face or jaw and lifestyle habits. Effective management often involves addressing these root causes through stress management and lifestyle changes. However, for some this is not enough.
Cosmetic injectables target the nerves of the selected muscles to reduce their strength and ability to contract. Over time, the nerves of the affected muscles will adapt and eventually restore to their full function.
Generally speaking, the effects of muscle relaxant injectables will gradually wear off over a
period of 2-4 months. However, this can vary depending on your health, the dose, frequency
and duration of treatment. Some patients may notice the benefits of TMJ Dysfunction
treatment or Bruxism treatment for longer, especially if they have been receiving regular
injections for some time.
On the other hand, if the hyperactivity of the muscle is severe the symptoms can return
earlier, around 2 months. This is also impacted by a number of lifestyle factors, such as high
stress, and health characteristics or even medications.
As part of your initial free consultation, we will discuss realistic expectations based on
Bruxism or TMJ Dysfunction pain, circumstances and health characteristics.
It can take up to 2 weeks for the full effects of medical injectables to kick in. However, some
individuals may notice gradual improvement as early as 3-4 days. If, however, by 2 weeks
there are any concerns, please get in touch to schedule a follow-up appointment.
Medical muscle relaxant injections are not suitable in certain circumstances, including:
The cost of Bruxism or TMJ Dysfunction treatment can vary depending on the target area,
