Australian Law prohibits the naming of prescription drugs in Australian media, and is why we can only refer to them as "Anti-sweating" or "medical" injectables. Cosmetic injectables more known for treating wrinkles were actually first used for treating various medical conditions, and still have multiple medical applications today. The medical conditions we offer in clinic treatments for at Dr J. Aesthetics include:
Excessive sweating in the underams, or axillary Hyperhidrosis, can result in unpleasant underarm shirt stains especially during warmer weather. Excessive underarm sweating can also lead to the increased growth of bacteria which produce underarm body odour which may cause distress for some individuals.
Those with excessive sweating from their hands, or palmar Hyperhidrosis , may wish to recieve Hyperhidrosis treatment as the excess sweating can cause significant distress in certain settings such as when shaking hands to greet people, holding hands on dates, playing muscial instruments, or just conducting everyday work activities. Dr Jeremy first underwent hiperhidrosis treatment for himself after his medical school examiner failed one of his exam stations for appearing excessively nervous due to his palmar hiperhidrosis despite fulfilling all clinical requirements of the station. So he knows first hand the impact Hyperhidrosis can have on individuals (no pun intended)!
Injectables for Hyperhidrosis work by blocking the nerve signals that allow sweat glands to extcrete sweat onto the surface of your skin. When used medically for sweating, the injectables are placed very superficially where the sweat glands are. Over time, nerves of affected sweat glands will adapt to the effects of anti-wrinkle injections, and eventually restore its full function, and is why the effects of anti-wrinkle/anti-sweating injectables treatments are only temporary.
It can take up to 2 weeks for the full effects of injectables for Hyperhidrosis and excessive sweating to fully kick in. However some individuals may notice gradual improvement as early as 2-4 days. If however by 2 weeks there are any concerns, please get in touch to schedule a follow-up appointment.
Generally speaking, the effects of injectables for Hyperhidrosis and excessive sweating will gradually wear off over a period of 2-4 months, but can vary depending on individual health characteristics, dose, frequency of treatment, and how long you've received regular treatments. As part of your consultation, we will discuss with you in detail what are the realistic expectations based on your unique circumstances and health characteristics.
Anti-wrinkle injections are not suitable in certain circumstances, some including:
