Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance that is injected beneath the skin. Modern dermal fillers are generally made with hyaluronic acid, a type of complex sugar molecule that will naturally dissolve over time. It can also be dissolved medically with hyaluronidase. 

Once injected, dermal fillers will integrate with your own tissue. They are designed to draw water toward it to build volume which can help:

1. Replace lost volume and counteract age-related loss of fat, collagen and hyaluronic acid. Commonly, patients get dermal fillers under the eyes or to smooth out wrinkles and smile lines.

How long dermal fillers will remain in place will vary significantly between individual products and based on individual characteristics. Generally speaking, they are expected to last between 6 to 18 months.
